THE PHYSICANS OF PRIMARY CARE ASSOCIATES

Primary Care Associates (PCA) is comprised of six physicians. Drs. Brad Wainer, Sheila Berndt, Nejat Destani, Michael Gershberg, and Matthew Hsieh specialize in Family Medicine.  Dr. Lori Weiss specializes in Pediatrics. All of the Physicians are Board Certified in their specialties and are on staff at both MacNeal Hospital and LaGrange Hospital. Dr Weiss is also affiliated with Children’s Memorial Hospital. 

HISTORY OF PCA

PCA was conceived in 1986 by Drs. Gary and Brad Wainer with the idea of providing a group practice environment to provide primary care medicine for the whole family- from birth through the golden years. We began our life in a small office at the corner of 34th and Oak Park Ave by combining our original practice with that of Dr. Isadore Lerner. Along the way we absorbed the practices of Dr. Stan Krajcovic and Dr. Louis Piccoli. We moved to our current location in November of 1993.  Our practice has grown since that time to include six dedicated, hard working and well qualified physicians. Dr Gary Wainer, one of the founders of the practice, has since left the practice and is now working in the administration at MacNeal Hospital. 

PHILOSOPHY

We strongly believe that each patient should have a primary care doctor that cares for all your chronic medical problems. This allows the physician and patient to develop a strong rapport which, over time, will improve our ability to provided high quality medical care.  We are usually able to see a patient on the same day that they call if there is a problem that needs to be dealt with emergently. We make every attempt to have you see “your physician”. If your physician is unavailable, we may ask you to see one of the other physicians in the practice. The covering physicians will care for your acute medical issues and then ask you to return to see your primary doctor. If you do not have a primary physician at Primary Care Associates, we will ask you to choose one. 

OUR STAFF

Our staff is a strong dedicated staff that, on average, has been with us for almost 9 years. Michele Ptak is our office Manager who has had a long tenure with PCA. Michele administers our office with efficiency and courtesy and ensures that the office runs smoothly.
